Transfers

As the name implies, "Bushhouse" is far away from mainstream tourist industry. It can only be reached by boat, helicopter or 4x4 wheel drive. Once you get there, however, it will be a rewarding experience.

Bushhouse organises boat and helicopter transfers for its guests.

Transfer by boat
We recommend boat transfers to and from Bushhouse. The cruise on the calm waters of the Pangalanes is a scenic voyage along big lakes and beautiful green landscape, and all the secular life of the Betsimisaraka before your eyes. Definitely one of the highlights of a stay in Madagascar.

You can take the boat either from Tamatave (3 hour cruise to Bushhouse) or Manambato, on lake Rasoabe (1 hour).

Regular flights connect daily capital Antananarivo and Tamatave. Travelling from Antananarivo to Manambato by car or minibus takes approximately 6 hours (277km) along a tarred curvy road through the rice terraced highlands. From Andasibe Natural Park it is a 3 hour drive (133km).

Transfer by 4x4 wheel drive
A direct trail is available only to 4-wheel drive adventurers. Road wind through mountainous terrain and costal forest.

If you chose to travel the complete distance by car, the junction where the road leads to Ankanin'ny Nofy can be found along the main road 280km from Antananarivo, or 150km from Tamatave. While the main road is tarred, the remaining 26km dirt-road leading to Ankanin'ny Nofy is in poor state and takes 2 hours to drive. If you are coming with your own vehicle, please contact us beforehand for up-to-date information on the state of the road. We only recommend the road during dry season (April till October). Avoid in all cases the Monsoon season (December, January).

Transfer by helicopter
The most spectacular and convenient mode of transport is a 45 minute helicopter flight from Antananarivo, arriving directly on the beach of Bushhouse. Tour Operator Boogie Pilgrim in Antananarivo, which manages Bushhouse, also provides a helicopter service for guests.
